Big Four Golf Challenge
I try to keep abreast of all Wolfpack sports here, and golf is no exception.
McConnell Golf announced that Treyburn Country Club would host a revived "Big Four Golf Challenge". It had been nearly a half-century since the last golf challenge was played.
The format allows each team to bring five players and 15 alumni. During the morning rounds each current player will be teamed up with three alumni in a stroke-play, 18-hole event. The best netball per hole of the alumni, plus the gross score of the college player, will count as the team score for the "alumni division." The afternoon matches will be current players only, and will be a match-play event with a total of 19 points per match at stake.
In it's first year reincarnated, NC State bested Wake forest 3 and 2 and won the Big 4 Challenge on Monday. NC State posted the low team score in the morning stroke play portion of the event with a 369, nine shots better than second place Wake Forest. North Carolina shot 382, while Duke had a 383 in cold and rainy conditions throughout the morning.
Matt Hill of NC State shot a two-under 70 to win stroke play medalist honors, with teammate Brad Revell finishing two shots back.
The Pack return to action May 14-16 at the NCAA Central Regional at The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Ky., as the No. 3 seed.
